- Tortoises are ancient. They were around at the same time as dinosaurs.
- Tortoises scales are called scutes and are made out of keratin.
- Tortoise can lay 1-12 eggs but more often 4-6.

Tortoises eat:Dandelions,Clovers,Cabbages,Spring greens,Apples and Pears.
They like to live in areas where it is cool and they feel protected.They inhabit various locations, including:
- Grasslands
- Savannas
- Deserts
- Forests
- Large islands in the ocean
They are found on all continents except Australia and Antarctica.
